What is a Writing Center?
The Greer Middle College Writing Center offers students one-to-one writing conferences to improve not only the papers they bring, but also their writing abilities.
Students may bring writing from any class at any point in the process of writing, from brainstorming to editing. Writing tutors ask questions as readers, make suggestions, and help students learn to revise and edit.
Who works at the Writing Center?
Writing Center Tutors are recommended by Greer Middle College teachers, and they have also submitted samples of their work to Mr. Cook. After training with Mr. Cook on proper tutoring techniques, Tutors will be able to help students find the most effective methods of communication in their writing.
Mr. Cook will also be tutoring students while the Writing Center is open.
When is the Writing Center open?
The Writing Center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15-4:15. Walk-Ins are welcome!
What ISN’T the Writing Center for?
The Writing Center exists to make students better writers. Tutors will NOT rewrite your essays. They will offer suggestions, point out weaknesses, encourage strengths, and lend a second pair of eyes to student work. They will not rewrite your essay and give you an “A” paper. The Writing Center is a resource for writers. If you visit the Writing Center, you are not guaranteed an “A”. However, you are guaranteed a significant boost in your essay’s potential.
