Greer Middle College
The Greer Middle College Planning Committee received approval to locate a public charter high school on Greenville Technical College's Greer campus. The committee has two excellent models: Greenville Tech Charter High School (located on the Barton campus) and Brashier Middle College Charter High School (located on the Brashier campus in Simpsonville).
Greer Middle College will be a small school with 400 students in grades 9-12, opening in the fall of 2008. Open enrollment allows any student in the School District of Greenville County to attend, with no admission tests or tuition. With a mix of challenge and support, the charter school will offer students and their parents a unique choice for their high school education.

A Charter School
A charter school is a public, nonprofit corporation forming a school which operates within a public school district. Charter schools are an avenue for parents, teachers, and community members to create new and more flexible ways of educating students within the state's public school system.
Charter schools offer students different learning opportunities and teachers the flexibility to be innovative, but with the responsibility to be held accountable.
A charter school is governed by a board elected by parents and teachers. The school must be accountable, meeting all state standards and No Child Left Behind legislation as well as the guidelines in its charter. As with any other public school in the district, the same federal, state and local money flows to this school through the School District of Greenville County.

A Middle College
A middle college is an autonomous, small high school located on or near a college campus. The middle college supplements courses offerings by enrolling students in college courses for secondary and postsecondary credit, thereby graduating students with a high school diploma and some postsecondary credits, certificates, diplomas, or associate's degree. Middle colleges are associated with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Middle College National Consortium.
